eRail was opened in late 2008 with the purpose of providing entertainment to a few core members of the former AltRail community who felt ostracised with the elitist attitudes prevalent at that time in that simulation. eRail was designed to operate approximately 10 years in the past; this allowed companies to take charge of their destinies far closer to Privatisation then before. Since that time in 2010 it was decided that due to a lack of interest in the eRail concept the simulation would be Nationalised; with the UK Transport Department taking charge of unowned companies.
As of December 2010; there are 19 active companies in eRail, some posting more frequently then others.
